Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon has lavished praises on captain KL Rahul, hailing him as one of the emerging captains in the nation. KL Rahul, who took charge of Punjab Kings last year, has been a consistent performer for the franchise, scoring heaps of runs. Satish Menon stated KL Rahul is a quick learner of the game and understands it exceptionally well.
KL Rahul has been amongst the top run-getters in the last three IPL editions and scored 670 runs in 2020 to earn the Orange Cap. The Karnataka-born keeper-batsman had a tough start to his leadership campaign last year as Kings XI Punjab lost five matches on the trot under his leadership once. But he also showed plenty of promise at the same time, making Punjab Kings retain him as skipper for IPL 2021.
Satish Menon reckons that KL Rahul is one of the best emerging captains in recent times and believes that keeper-batsmen always have a good understanding of the game. Menon further said that the 28-year old has taken training from some of the best leaders in the world and learning quickly. He also revealed that nobody Royal Challengers Bangalore would release Rahul; however, Punjab remained sure that he would make it big.
“I think he is one of the best emerging captains that you’ll see in recent times, in terms of his understanding of the game. I have always believed wicket keepers have the best view of what is going on and understand the game well. This is something that Viru. He has been training under some of the best captains the country has seen in recent times. He is a great learner. I have seen him when he was in the first year, still finding his feet. No one would have believed that RCB would let go of him, we picked him up with a sure-shot foresight that this guy is going to make it big,” Menon told Sports Today.

Satish Menon also claimed that KL Rahul is quite an easy-going person and builds friendships very fast. The 51-year old conceded that with plenty of youngsters within the team already, Rahul could speak their language; hence, they look up to the captain.
“The other thing I saw in the two years he was not a captain is that he makes friends very fast. He is a very easy-going guy. He is one with all. He is also closer to their age, we have a lot of kids below 25, he talks the language that they understand. They all look up to him,” he added.
